The latest film by renowned director Mamoru Hosoda hit Japanese theaters on July 16th, 2021. It’s a retelling of Beauty and the Beast that’s been well-received by fans and critics alike, and so obviously folks have taken their excitement to pixiv as well.

The film focuses on Suzu Naito, who hasn’t been able to sing since her mother passed away. She makes an account in the virtual world, U, and realizes that since she’s able to sing as her avatar Belle. There is also the enigmatic “Dragon”, dubbed the “Beast” by many, who is known for acting violently in the peaceful world of U. The dramatic storyline weaves between reality and the virtual world, blending emotions seamlessly. The music, an integral piece of the work, is stellar, making this a must-see.
