Set in a fictional country based on ancient China, the series follows Maomao, a young girl working as an apothecary in the red-light district who gets kidnapped and sold to the Imperial Court one day. Due to her wealth of knowledge about poison and medicine and many eccentricities, she soon catches the eye of the attractive and influential eunuch Jinshi. Using her extensive experience as an apothecary, Maomao gradually makes a name for herself by solving various mysteries in the court.

Season 2 of the anime recently premiered on January 10th, 2025, with many more mysteries and adventures in store for Maomao and Jinshi. What palace drama awaits the duo this season? Perhaps this collection of fan art may offer a cheeky little sneak peek!

While these two things may seem to contradict each other at first, you’ll soon see what we mean once you scroll through these illustrations! For those unfamiliar with jiāngshī, jiāngshī are essentially reanimated corpses that also go by the name of “Chinese hopping vampires.” These creatures are said to come alive at night to suck the life out of living beings, which can be a terrifying thought, but perhaps less so if they look like the jiāngshī in today’s feature!

Would you let any of these endearing hopping vampires suck the life out of you, or would you run like the wind if you encountered one?

While some artists choose to set their story in China, others create entirely new alternate universes with many similarities or explore Chinese folklore in a modern-day setting. Regardless of the setting, these illustrations all tend to feature ornate architecture, beautifully embellished outfits, and breathtaking scenes that will have you longing to be transported there.

Do you have a favorite Chinese-inspired fantasy series?

Rather than blood, these creatures come alive at night and suck the life force out of living beings. While they can sometimes appear terrifying, they can also take on the appearance of a relatively ordinary-looking, recently deceased person, like the ones featured in today’s article. Besides, don’t they seem more endearing than scary when you imagine them doing their best to hop towards you?

From traditional jiāngshī to cute modernized jiāngshī, the illustrations below showcase a diverse array of Chinese hopping vampires. Enjoy, and be careful not to get your life force sucked out of you!

If you’re familiar with the Chinese Zodiac, then you know which animal comes after the rabbit—that’s right, 2024 is the Year of the Dragon! Unlike their Western counterparts, which tend to have wings, stand upright on four legs, and breathe fire, dragons in Eastern mythology are usually wingless and tend to have longer serpentine bodies and shorter limbs. They are also often associated with water and depicted as benevolent guardians of villages or rivers, just like everyone's favorite kindhearted white and green river god, Haku!

Today, we’ve gathered multiple illustrations featuring graceful and majestic Eastern dragons. May the new year bring you much growth, progress, and abundance!

Folding fans were once used ceremonially and for entertainment, but they are now frequently used as a tool or accessory to stay cool. Sit back, relax and enjoy!

The slit of a Chinese dress will reveal the beauty of slender legs while it will highlight the shape of the upper body... it is definitely designed to draw out a woman's attractiveness. Unlike dresses of European style with their frills and tutus, the Chinese dress will give a clear shape to a woman's silhouette. Men who see these can't help but feel the suggestive appeal of legs boldly stretching out from the dress slit.
Today, we have collected illustrations featuring women wearing Chinese dresses. Enjoy!

The style includes Chinese-influenced patterns but includes ribbons and lace in the Lolita fashion. It's like you've entered another world... so cute! Check them out!
