Have you ever seen something so beautiful that your first reaction was to let out a sigh? For over 10 years now, there have been many works on pixiv that have inspired that very reaction.

A special tag was created for this feeling using a portmanteau of fuu (ふう, lit. the sound of sighing) and utsukushii (美しい, lit. “beautiful”). Fans typically apply it to works they feel make good use of light and color, depict awe-inspiring scenery, or even include some beautiful characters.

How about you? Do any of the works below take your breath away?

An action scene where the characters jump high, looking like it’s the best feeling in the world, a battle scene depicting fighters with the intent to kill, or a character taking a thrilling leap… It’s easy for us to mistake a still illustration that depicts jumping characters as a moving image. Although it’s just a single piece of illustration, it’s packed with so much intensity that reaches and inspires us. Don’t miss this chance to view poses that are tricky to draw, those that accurately convey the weight of gravity, as well as structures and angels that demonstrate the genius techniques of these illustrators!

This time we’re featuring illustrations with the theme jumping. Enjoy!

The tag “one-eye 3D (片目3D)” is given for illustrations that appear three-dimensional when viewed with one eye. It’s also a tag that is meant to be a praise for the artist’s demonstration of depth cueing, as a result of their amazing and splendid techniques, and contrast application. The worlds in these illustrations are so realistic, it’s as if they actually exist somewhere in the universe. And then there are also the characters, the residents of these worlds, who allow us to see their spontaneous expressions... Each of these illustrations is way more fascinating than any single illustration should be!

This time we’re featuring illustrations that appear 3D-like when viewed with one eye.
pixiv is a place where people who love drawing or viewing illustrations gather. If we consider the number of illustrations that are uploaded on pixiv every day, we’ll notice just how many people adore drawing and it’s a truly inspiring realization.

Painting starts with creating a rough sketch, lining the frame, and then coloring… Painting isn't without its fair share of difficulties, but once you achieve the look that you’ve envisioned, you feel a sense of accomplishment. Once you land your eyes on a painting, big or small, that you believe must have been created with all of the painter’s heart and mind, don’t you find yourself wondering what went through the painter’s head when they were drawing it?

Today, we're featuring illustrations that depict people whose "painting is in progress". Their imagination is still expanding and it knows no bound. Enjoy!

How focus can you get in one hour?

Focusing your attention on something for an entire hour seems to be a difficult thing to do in this day and age where people are always racing against time. When there’s laundry to do and house chores to attend to, sitting down and just focusing on something for an hour is easier said than done. Laying around doing nothing seems to be a great idea when we do get some time for ourselves after coming back from work or school. Well, there are people out there who decide to spend an hour to draw an illustration.

Today, we’re featuring illustrations tagged with “one-hour drawing”, or “one-draw” (ワンドロ) for short. These people spend those 60 minutes facing their own world. Enjoy!

Art Inception is what we call art drawn within an art piece. Illustrations of a character drawing something, or an illustration full of other art pieces or pictures are all difficult to draw, requiring a good sense for it. In exchange, they can show off a great depth, otherwise challenging for 2D illustrations.

Today, we'll be showing off some of our best Art Inception illustrations. Well then, enjoy!

Some people think that, in order to do digital art, you absolutely have to own a pen tablet. The truth is, there are digital artists out there that use nothing but an old school mouse! The quality of their artworks will make you realize that giving up on art only because you don't own a tablet is just an excuse. However, a mouse is not originally intended to draw illustrations: can you imagine how difficult it can be to draw a straight line?

Today we feature a number of breath-taking illustrations drawn with nothing but a mouse. Enjoy!

However, because the details are compacted in the small images, it’s better to expand these thumbnails in order to better take in the delicate details of the illustration. When you click the work as it is in the preview page, the original size as it is meant to be is possible to be seen and these illustrations had the tag that says “recommended” attached to them.

Today, we feature illustrations “recommended” and you’ll want to enlarge them all to view all of the accompanying details. The illustrations are drawn in a way that the viewer can get a sense of the joy the artist put behind their work, so by all means please enjoy them!
