Everyone, it's now time to have fun folding some paper toys after you have prepared a pair of scissors, a glue, and your favorite "paper toy template" (展開図)♪ On pixiv, the tags "paper toy template" (展開図) and "papercraft" (ペーパークラフト) are used by artists who like handicraft when they publicize their illustrations. The cute graphics of characters with head/body ratio of 1:1 make us want to fold many paper toys and decorate our desk with them. It's hard to resist immersing ourselves into these detailed handicrafts and we might soon find ourselves furring our brows in concentration, trying to fold a difficult template.

On pixiv, illustrators sometimes post lineart submissions tagged nuttemo iinoyo, which are free for anyone to color. They are perfect for whoever enjoys coloring or for people who want to practice!
The tag Nuttemita features the results - illustrations that users tried to color themselves. The same line drawing can look completely different according to the way in which it's colored! Uchi no ko (うちの子, lit. "my child") is a Japanese tag which is used for original character illustrations. Original characters are created by artists themselves, who choose not only the design but also the character's personality. It's easy to grow attached to one's original characters, to the point of considering them your own babies! Plus, it's very nice when other people grow attached to your character after seeing your illustrations.

Student War Project

In a parallel universe to ours, there's a Japan that's involved in the Student War Project. On Twitter, there was a Shindanmaker called "Students' War" that gave your student a faction of White, Black, or Red and would have a battle between all three by seeing how many illustrations were submitted on pixiv for each faction. Characters could have names, weapons, special characteristics, and their personalities explained. All of them could wear school uniforms or normal clothing, but each character was unique.
