With our smartphones tucked away in our bags and pockets, most of us can be reached with a single tap of a button these days. Regardless, there’s something charming about telephones, despite their clunkiness and lack of portability. When we press those buttons or rotate that dial, anxiously twirling the cord while waiting for the person on the other end to pick up, the call can feel that much more special. Besides, not being able to see your loved one’s face makes you miss them all the more, don’t you think?

Are you ready to take a trip down memory lane?

Due to the popularity of smartphones, the chances of us running into a phone booth and rummaging around for spare cash in a panic have become extremely low. Regardless, their narrow, sealed-off environment continues to inspire countless artists on pixiv. Depending on the situation, phone booths can serve as an intimate setting for a long-harbored confession... or the perfect crime scene in a horror story.

Today, we’re showcasing a series of phone booth illustrations ranging from sentimental to sinister. Either way, they’re likely to get your heart pounding!

You know those bulky, buttony devices taking up space in your grandparents' hallway? We're talking about telephones, of course. These clunky gadgets of the past somehow make us nostalgic, even though our modern pockets buzz with smartphones. With their spiraled cords and rotary dials, these old-fashioned telephones are like the charming, quirky aunts and uncles of today's communication devices.

Check out our collection of drawings featuring telephones. Ready to take a walk down memory lane?
If you cut a hole through two paper cups and attach them by a string, you can create a “string telephone”! Can you recall how you became completely immersed by turning such a simple toy into a telephone? You get so excited when speaking to someone using a string telephone, trying to predict how they would hear your voice. The fine string that changes the way the vibrations of your voice are transmitted to the other person makes this toy feel kind of romantic.

Today, we feature illustrations of secretive conversations made on String Telephones.
Since the invention of the telephone in 1876 by Alexander Graham Bell, a whole range of inventions that continue to make our lives more convenient have sprung up. From the rotary-dial telephone where you had to spin the dial around, to the push-button phone, and the compact mobile phones that can access the internet, life just keeps getting more and more convenient. Just having one house phone used to be the norm, but such house phones are now considered retro in a generation of mobile phones. You may feel a sense of nostalgia thinking about how you used to get scolded by family members for hogging the phone, or waiting in front of the phone for your friends to call.

Today, we have a special feature on the phone, where you had to wait in excitement wondering who would pick your call up. Take a look!

Ever since everyone started getting smartphones and stuff, those days of the pay phone have been disappearing. Did you know that you used to be able to use 10 yen and talk forever on the pay phone?
Since people started using the pay phone to talk as long as they wanted, on Jan 30th 1970, pay phones started only allowing up to 3 minutes a call. From that day onward, that day became known as "3-Minute Phone Call Day".
Today's Spotlight is all about these nostalgic pay phones... why don't you try calling that important person for 3 minutes today?
