As well, the characters and/or the archetypes behind them are invoked in many motifs of characters in anime and games, even today. The deities of Greek mythology are also well-known for their all-too-human characteristics. The penchant for love and rivalry among the gods is the source of much and varied drama--likely why their legends are still handed down to this day.
