Drawings of Herbariums - Flowers Preserved for Science
Did you know that today's herbariums are often decorative, with plants stored in sealed glassware, they used to be used by scientists. They also used to be primarily books, because it was cheaper and easier to store.
Preservation can involve suspending the flowers in oil or by filling the container with resin. Other items like seashells or plastic insects can be added to give it an almost magical quality.
What would you include in an herbarium?
