The pixelated art style is one that brings up a lot of nostalgia for the early days of the internet, right? Back then, even the best images were made up of so few pixels that everything had a sort of boxy look to it. Seeing some of today's more popular characters depicted in this style is sure to bring a smile to many, especially those of a certain age.

Naofumi Iwatani (from The Rising of the Shield Hero) and Kaede Honjo (from BOFURI: I Don't Want to Get Hurt, so I'll Max Out My Defense) are two prominent shield users who've been given a whole new pixelated look.

Have any of the illustrations below got you connecting the dots?

Dot, dot, dot, dot... Pixel art was particularly popular during the Super Nintendo era. In the 80s, many people were surprised at the variety of illustrations that could be created with a bunch of colors and many, many dots. Thinking about how much care goes into these illustrations makes our heads spin!

Today we collected a number of beautiful pixel art illustrations. Enjoy!

                                            Hello everybody, it's Nyalra (@nyalra).
Today I'm interviewing Yuuta Toyoi (@1041uuu), illustrator and pixel artist who is also part of Geek House, a project that collects various creators and which was introduced in the Japanese TV program The Non Fiction. His pixel works are beautiful and have a strong retro vibe, and have gathered a lot of attention from media. Toyoi has refused to release interviews up until now, but I took advantage of my friendship with him to visit him in Wakayama prefecture, where he currently lives. Surprisingly, he agreed to answer a few questions.

This is going to be a very rare interview article, so I hope you're grateful it exists.

Have you ever tried to create some pixel art illustrations? Not only you can do it with any painting software (Photoshop, SAI, CLIP STUDIO PAINT etc.), but there’s also a dedicated free program called “edge” you can try out! Of course, let’s not forget Microsoft Paint, the iconic drawing software included with all versions of Microsoft Windows. Sometimes the canvas is as small as 16x16 pixels, but with just a few tricks the drawing process itself couldn’t be simpler! With pixel art, you can create some cute NES-style retro characters or try out some designs to use in Minecraft. Today we collected a series of tutorials and mini-lessons about pixel art. Enjoy!
