Ready for a little history lesson? In the mid-1800s, there was quite a bit of internal instability after Japan opened up to the west. The Shogunate forces needed to clamp down on rebellion, and the Shinsengumi was formed as a special police force.

These men were chosen for their skill from sword schools around Edo (now known as Tokyo), and as such, they’ve been featured in a large number of fictional works, including novels, manga, TV dramas, and films.

Of the characters below, you might recognize the Shinsengumi characters from Gin Tama, Golden Kamuy, and Fate/Grand Order.

The shinobi who tangles with the night sky and uses ninjutsu to defeat their enemy lacks the charm found effortlessly in their female counterparts.,The kanji for “woman” can be split apart to form the new word “kunoichi” the name given to female ninjas and these women can topple enemies while still maintaining a girlish charm.

This time, illustrations depicting both mysterious female ninjas, and adorable and huggable ninjas have been presented today.

Ninjas were part of the intelligence in old Japan, and they specialized in espionage activities. This cool and elegant figure, absolutely loyal to their master, became very popular even outside Japan. “Ninjutsu (ninpo)”, ninja martial arts is a strategy used by ninja. This is a set of rules that rules their combat style, and it’s quite different from any other style (including samurai’s, which are equally popular abroad). Ninjutsu has different techniques which are also famous worldwide, thanks to the books, manga and anime, such as the skill of transformation, the shadow cloning technique and the skill of water-escape. That can be also said with their weapons like throwing knives and kunai. Today we collected beautiful artworks portraying ninjas and female ninjas called “kunoichi”. Enjoy!
