Sitting or lying against the trunk, you might even see a few patches of sunlight streaming through the leaves above onto the grass beneath your feet. In Japanese, this is called komorebi (木漏れ日, lit. “sunlight leaking through trees”), which refers specifically to light filtered through the branches of trees or foliage. There’s something magical about the way komorebi casts patches of light and shade on a person’s face and dances across it, diffusing their features or creating a stark contrast, depending on its intensity.
