By now, most of us are familiar with selfies, regardless of age or location. While it might be difficult to figure out which angles highlight your features the best at first, once you get the hang of it, selfies can be a great form of self-expression! Not only do selfies serve as snapshots of our lives, but they’re also a way for the world to see us as we want to be seen. Whenever you snap a selfie, you’re basically making the statement, “I’m here, and this is who I am.” For many, that can be a beautiful way to reclaim themselves.

Check out these illustrations of characters who’ve mastered the art of the selfie!

Is there any better way to relax than flopping down on your stomach to read a book or mess with your phone? Prop yourself up with a comfy pillow or two, have a drink and some snacks by your side, and you’ve got yourself the ultimate cozy space! While this pose is often done solo, lying on your stomach side by side with a trusted friend or two can be equally relaxing and intimate.

If you’re feeling a little worn out, here’s your cue to grab a pillow and make yourself comfy like the characters below!

Deep squats, when done well, are a perfectly effortless pose for relaxing in. Characters drawn in a deep-squat position can make for a beautiful, static silhouette or a dynamic composition, sometimes with an added element of cheekiness. It can also give you an up-close and personal perspective—think back on all those anime scenes of someone dropping down to the ground to help pick up a dropped pen or a person sheltering a stray cat under their umbrella, and you’ll probably see what we mean!

Have a look at the following illustrations and enjoy each character's relaxed expressions!

The art of the selfie has truly taken over our lives, hasn't it? With the ubiquity of smartphones, snapping that perfect shot of yourself is practically second nature. And let's not forget the handy selfie stick, making it easier than ever to fit everyone into one frame without the need for a designated photographer. And, no joke, it's always entertaining to watch people take selfies from the outside, as everyone puts on their best face to show off their best side!

Today, we're showcasing drawings of characters taking selfies. Objects that are nearby are depicted as large and objects that are farther away from the viewer are drawn smaller to create perspective. The low perspective composition, in which the observer is positioned to stare up from below, can make the subject seem strong. Characters drawn with their hands reaching out have a mysterious aura to them, don't you think? Just what are they reaching for? How badly do they want it? How far will they go to get it? Perhaps they're just reaching out for a bit of affection.

Cure Finale (from Delicious Party♡Pretty Cure) is bursting forth, full of energy, with her hand stretched out toward her goal.

Have any of the illustrations below reached you in a certain way?

One of the things that make the world of anime and manga so great is the amazingly depicted fight scenes that usually bring the story to an adrenaline-induced crescendo. Seeing your favorite characters showcase their physical strength while they do battle with the opposition is part of what makes the media so beloved among a diverse group of fans all over the world.

The showdown between Gaara of the Sand and Rock Lee (from the Naruto franchise) is one of the most iconic and helped show more of each of the participants' skills and personalities.

Have any of the illustrations below go you fired up?

Sometimes changing your point of view is enough to give you a brand new outlook on something, and the world of art is certainly no exception. For example, portraying things from a high angle gives the viewer a unique sense of power and tension. It also gives the piece a greater sense of movement, which adds a sense of reality and helps immerse the viewer into the piece’s setting and story.

The wind whipping through Chihiro’s (from Spirited Away) hair as she rides Haku seems almost visible thanks to the high angle of the piece.

Have you been able to get a new perspective on any of the pieces below?

There are so many ways to show someone you care. Perhaps one of the simplest is to take them by the hand. Whether it’s best friends happily clasping hands as they take a stroll, taking the hand of a loved one as you quietly watch the sunset, or joining hands with your special someone on a date, this casual gesture is one of the best ways to make your bond visible to the world.

The bond between Madoka and Homura (from Puella Magi Madoka Magica), who’ve been through hell and back for each other, is abundantly clear.

Is there a pair of characters below with a bond that outshines the others?

With their amazing lighting effects, color choices, and incredible attention to even the most minute details, one can’t help but feel that tag is more than appropriate.

Even the less-than-god-like deity Aqua (from KonoSuba: God's Blessing on This Wonderful World!) has an ethereal glow about her.
