Glamorous Red Fruit, Pomegranates!
When you cut open a pomegranate, the many seeds look like sparkling rubies. In Japan, it is said that pomegranates “taste like people”. This saying derives from an anecdote from Kishibojin (the goddess of childbirth and children), the guardian deity of the Lotus Sutra. It is said that in order to feed her 500 children, she had to feed on human babies. The historical Buddha couldn’t stand it and convinced her to eat pomegranates instead. In reality, tiny seeds from the pomegranate have sour-sweet flavor, and they taste very refreshing.
Today’s Spotlight is about illustrations on beautiful artworks of pomegranates. Enjoy!
