Have you ever used PaintsChainer, an auto coloring service that allows you to add colors to a lineart thanks to an AI?

We talked about in the past, in our article where a girl with no artistic taste learned to color like a pro (!?) in 2 hours. However, did you know that PaintsChainer was completely renewed at the end of October?

To encourage users to try out its brand new functions, pixiv decided to hold an illustration contest on its Mastodon instance Pawoo and on its illustration communication app pixiv Sketch!

New AI versions have been added for automatic coloring. In addition to "Tanpopo", an auto coloring AI that uses fluffy watercolors and "Satsuki", that uses ink-like colors to create a sharper atmosphere, the new AI "Kanna" has appeared, which uses way more highlights and shadows than before.

Besides that, the design of the official website and toolbar have also been changed, and a new function that lets you draw on uploaded lineart has been added. In addition to being able to share the colored images to various social networks, you can experience automatic coloring immediately with sample images, even if you have no linearts at hand.

"Which sister will color you? 3 AI Sisters Illustration Contest" Overview

Entry materials:

・An original lineart drawn by you

・Draw a lineart inspired to one of the three PaintsChainer AI sisters Tanpopo, Satsuki and Kanna, auto color it with PaintsChainer or pixiv Sketch and submit it.

How to enter:

・ If you used PaintsChainer: submit your work to Pawoo

・ If you used pixiv Sketch: submit it right away on pixiv Sketch

Please add the following hashtag to your submission: #AI三姉妹イラスト企画

Prize:

・ Grand Prize (a few winners): iPad Pro

・ Tanpopo Prize, Satsuki Prize, Kanna Prize (10 winners each): PaintsChainer t-shirt

ー The winner will be chosen among the participants to each auto coloring category.

* This project is co-hosted by Preferred Networks and Pawoo Secretariat.

* You can enter from Pawoo or pixiv Sketch. You can post your entry to one of them or to both of them.

* As long as it's an original drawing, you are allowed to use old linearts too.

* Although you can post an unlimited number of entries, you cannot post the same work more than once.

* Please refrain from entering with works that have already won prizes in the past.

* Works that violate Pawoo and pixiv's terms of service, including R-18 works, will be disqualified.

* We might post your work and pen name on pixiv Official Twitter or other social network accounts managed by pixiv.

* Submissions and award-winning works will be posted on Preferred Networks's PaintsChainer official website and special website.

・Eldest daughter "Tanpopo"

Makes use of fluffy watercolor-like tints. She is generally easygoing, but she can also be quite dark sometimes.

・Second daughter "Satsuki"

She enjoys using sharper tints resembling ink. She has a tsundere personality.

・Third daughter "Kanna"

She can be quite egotistical sometimes, but she's very good at using highlights and shadows.
