A fence is a chain-link made of metal, typically found enclosing rooftops, construction sites, and airports. Crossing a fence is not a difficult feat nor is it hard to see what is beyond, but the very existence of a fence seems to be telling us that we “must not step any further”. It gives us a feeling that the space we occupy and the one behind the single layer of fence are somewhat two different worlds.
