Turn around and look at me♡ Turning Back Beauties
Have you ever heard of the “Turning Back Beauty” (見返り美人図; mikaeri bijin zu) which is a drawing created by Moronobu Hishikawa, an ukiyo-e artist in the Edo period? She has a back that makes you want to hug her, not to mention those curvy and slender lines that connect her shoulders and her hips… A beautiful lady looking over her shoulder is a painting theme that is just as loved now as it was back then. When she turns her head and gazes at us, it feels as if we’re sharing the same space with her and it’s a thrilling sensation.
This time, we’re featuring illustrations of looking-back beauties. Enjoy!
