Junihitoe's Drawings - Graceful Japanese beauty.
The Junihitoe, or the twelve-layer kimono, was the favorite costume of aristocratic women in the court of the Heian period in Japan. It is said that the Junihitoe were made to match the four seasons. The colorful kimonos, the aroma of incense oozing from the clothes, the women's quiet and elegant footsteps... Everything related to the Junihitoe is classy. One theory says that Kyoto in the Heian period was very cold, so the twelve layers were created to keep the women warm.
Today we are featuring illustrations of Junihitoe. Please enjoy!
