How familiar are you with Hades? This roguelike dungeon crawler has claimed many fans and awards since its first early access release back in 2018. Available on a number of platforms, this single-player game has received universal acclaim for its story, gameplay, soundtrack, and of course, characters.

Excitement among old and new fans alike hit a Mount Olympus-like peak when a sequel game — Hades II — was also announced during the 2022 Game Awards on December 8, 2022. 

In Hades, the player takes the role of Zagreus, Prince of the Underworld and rebellious son of Hades. Unhappy with his father and his life in the Underworld, Zagreus makes many attempts to escape the realm of the dead and reach Mount Olympus.

Assisted on his quest by various deities, including his adoptive mother Nyx and his demigod mentor Achilles, Zagreus powers through a number of obstacles and challenges in the various biomes of the Underworld.

Despite frequently bearing the brunt of his father’s frustrations and disappointment, Zagreus is a humbled and good-natured character with persistence, good humor, and wit. He goes above and beyond to protect those he cares about.

Perhaps his most notable physical feature, besides his smaller-than-the-average-god height and perpetually burning feet, is his heterochromatic eyes. Along his journey, players discover that in this case there truly is more than meets the eye when it comes to Zagreus and his family.
