Giving your character a big, rough-looking scar can add a level of depth and intrigue that words alone just can't do. Is it the result of fighting in a long and bloody war or did they just slip in the bathtub? No one can tell at first glance and that makes you just want to know more and more about them, right?

Adding to the fact that his fast is almost always hidden, Hatake Kakashi (from the Naruto franchise) has a scar over his left eye that has intrigued both characters and fans alike.
