Drawings Featuring Oiran - I Make the Rules
There’s no such thing as an easy job, and becoming an oiran is no easy feat! Not to be confused with geisha, oiran were high-ranking courtesans during the Edo period. Renowned for their artistic ability, flamboyant style, and, of course, beauty, oiran were reserved for the upper classes of society due to their intensive training in the traditional arts and expensive upkeep. While the profession has long ceased to exist, its legacy of trend-setting fashion continues to inspire countless artists to this day.
Check out the collection of illustrations below, and get ready to be wowed by the world of oiran fashion!
