On their own, picture frames might be nothing more than an aesthetic way to decorate and protect a precious photo or painting. When it comes to composition, however, it’s a different story. Picture frames can be used to frame (excuse us for the pun) an interesting shot in the background, used as a border to create a mirror image, or even ignored entirely—the unexpectedness of a person emerging from a frame is a great way to blur the lines between fantasy and reality.
