Akira is widely considered one of the greatest science fiction films — and animated films — of all time. It has a cult following and is largely attributed to setting the stage for anime’s introduction into the west.

In the world of fan art, crossovers are almost inevitable. It’s easy to find yourself wondering what your favorite character might look like in another style or how they might act in another world entirely.

Illustrations of these fan art crossovers are sometimes tagged with 混ぜるな自然 (mazeruna shizen, roughly translatable to “don’t mix, it’s…! Wait, it actually looks natural”). The tag is a play on words based on the Japanese slogan (混ぜるな危険, mazeruna kiken, “don’t mix, it’s dangerous”) warning against mixing household chemicals, which also happens to be a tag regarding crossovers on pixiv.
