Have you ever heard of a technique called "one-point perspective", used to create three-dimensional compositions? One-point perspective (or "single-point perspective") is a method used to draw stereoscopic and realistic backgrounds. It's often used to draw interiors and landscapes. The peculiar thing about one-point perspective is that a single 'vanishing point' (1) is used. By increasing the number of vanishing points, you can create two-point and three-point perspectives.

By drawing landscapes while ignoring the perspective, they will end up looking quite unnatural. Although beginners might find it hard to grasp the idea behind the concept of perspective, the illustrations we are featuring today will help you get a deeper understanding on the matter! Enjoy these tutorials and easy explanations on how to master the one-point perspective technique!

(1) Vanishing point: a spot on the horizon line to which the receding parallel lines diminish. In other words, the point where all lines seem to meet.

Do you have a solid grip on the foundation and tricks of drawing landscape paintings? In fact, once you memorize the basics - such as using the effects of media softwares such as Photoshop and Sai to express light and shadow, or the right method of picking up a purse - you can easily improve on the way you draw illustrations of background and scenery. If you follow the right steps in order, starting with the rough copy, even as a beginner you’ll be able to draw realistic looking scenery, including some that seem difficult to grasp such as the sea, sky, forests or mountains.

This time, we would like to introduce a special feature on works that focus on methods of drawing landscape paintings and backgrounds, by teaching and making-of. These illustrations are full of techniques that are good not only for landscape painting but also for backgrounds of illustrations. For all you drawing beginners out there, as well as those of you confident of your skills, how about trying and learning something new? Please enjoy!

When you're drawing characters and backgrounds, sometimes it's hard to just not make up what you think it looks like on the spot.

So let's try to draw them with some practical perspective! Perspective is created when you draw lines that help the depth of perception help your picture. It's a great tool for artists everywhere.
Perspective has lots of artistic terms relating to it, such as "eye level" or "focus point" or "vanishing point"...
Today's Spotlight is all about perspective tutorials!
