A little while ago, the uniform of a bakery called Kobeya, which you can find in train stations or malls in Japan, was of a huge source of interest among illustrators. The blue plaid aprons are pretty, retro, and cute, and there must be plenty of customers who get flustered by the way the uniform outlines the chest area. If you see a clerk wearing this uniform in a shop bathed in the delicious scent of bread, no one will blame you for wanting to buy out the whole shop!

It is now recognized as a symbol of ‘moe’, and was actually the work outfit of housekeepers in England in the 19th Century. The standard maid outfit includes a classic long dress with an apron, but has seen different variations over time, giving birth to many creative and original versions.

The girls who from ancient times have been assigned divine duties: Shrine Maidens. They can be seen a lot in the period of the New Year’s holiday while making a pilgrimage to a shrine. The clash of the Shrine Maiden’s traditional scarlet hakama and white clothing blooms within the peaceful and calm atmosphere of the shrine just like a single noble flower. Moreover, while holding the duty of serving god, when they appear in places where holiness cannot be reached, there is an added sense of sacredness.
