Standing serenely in front of a Shinto shrine is a torii (shrine archway), the gate that proclaims the beginning of the gods’ realm. The unique structure of a torii has a divine quality to it that prompts our body to instinctively stand a little straighter. A torii is many things at once--it is the boundary line between their world and ours, it is the gate that leads us to the extraordinary, and it is a symbol of Japan’s century-old cultures… A torii beckons you toward a world that is nothing like your definition of 'ordinary'.
