In a neighborhood where the exhaust sound of large airplanes can be heard roaring and where the sky is a just small stretch of space among rows of skyscrapers───

Akima (あきま) draws the daily lives of girls who reside in cramped cities where buildings are in an abundance. Akima’s usage of colors makes it as if we’re looking at the landscape through filters tinted in light blue and green, engendering a peculiar sort of ambiance. Although we’re aware that the cities in Akima’s illustrations are supposed to be packed with both buildings and the residents, we can’t help but be curious as to why the cities appear strangely deserted and hushed.
