Tokyo’s Harajuku is almost synonymous with its yume kawaii, or dreamy cute, fashion style. Recently, a darker offshoot known as yami kawaii, or sickly cute, has emerged. This aesthetic incorporates things like face masks, bandages, and syringes. Makeup that gives a sickly vibe is also used, injecting a bit of dark spice to an otherwise cutesy look.
