Fan Art of the Ladies of Rent-A-Girlfriend

Originally debuting in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine in July 2017, Rent-A-Girlfriend is a recent hit manga that has gone on to spawn an anime which kicked off its second season in July 2022.

Kazuya Kinoshita is a college guy who’s down on his luck, having just split up with his girlfriend Mami Nanami. Still reeling from his loss, he happens upon a dating app called “Diamond”, which offers "rental girlfriends", and chooses the most highly recommended girl, Chizuru Mizuhara.

After their initial date ends, Kazuya discovers that everything she did were things she would do for other clients as well. Furious, he gives her a 1-star review and sets up another date to let her know just how he feels.

Chizuru was equally furious, and while she was berating him for being so dense as to not realize what the service really was, Kazuya gets a call from his parents – his grandmother has been hospitalized. Chizuru tags along with Kazuya as he races to the hospital, creating the awkward situation of having to describe who she is to his family.

Embarrassed at the prospect of revealing that he rented a girlfriend via an app, Kazuya lies and tells them that Chizuru is his actual girlfriend.

Chizuru reluctantly goes along with the lie, and the two make a deal to keep up appearances for his grandmother’s sake while “breaking up slowly” over time. Just how long can they keep up this charade, especially when Kazuya’s ex unexpectedly shows up?

Chizuru Ichinose

Chizuru is a literature major at Nerima University who works part-time as a rental girlfriend under the alias Chizuru Mizuhara. While on the clock, she exudes an aura of perfection and grace. In her downtime, however, Chizuru can be irritable and brash, especially towards those she dislikes. At heart, she’s a sweet girl who is always willing to help those in need.

Mami Nanami

Kazuya’s ex-girlfriend who dumped him because she found someone new. Mami has a sweet and adorable veneer that just barely conceals a manipulative and petty personality. Although she’s very vain and prideful about her looks, she can be quite self-conscious when comparing her physique to more well-endowed girls like Chizuru. She’s aware of the true nature of Kazuya and Chizuru’s relationship and is determined to break them up.

Ruka Sarashina

Ruka, one of Chizuru’s co-workers, is a cheerful and straightforward girl who’s very honest about her feelings, which has left her alienated from most of her peers who see her as pushy and possessive. Born with an irregular heartbeat, Ruka can pass out if she strains herself too hard. She hopes that through her work as a rental girlfriend, she’ll encounter a guy who can safely raise her heartrate. Up until now, she’s only met one guy capable of doing that – Kazuya Kinoshita.

Sumi Sakurakawa
