Colorful ribbons can be used to wrap presents, as accessories or as the focus point to an outfit. This decorative item is said to have originated in ancient Greece, meaning it’s been around for thousands of years! Japanese people started using ribbons during the Meiji period (1868~1912), especially for half-up girls’ hairstyles, and they have now turned into an iconic fashion item! If you think about your favorite anime and manga, you will probably recall some characters wearing ribbons as the center piece of their outfit.
