Hana karuta cards, or hanafuda cards, are beautiful cards depicting Japanese flora and fauna. The origins of this famous deck of 48 cards go back to the cards brought by the Portuguese to Japan during the 16th century. While their roots are from overseas, hanafuda cards became part of Japan's culture.
