Drawings of Boys in Traditional Japanese School Uniforms vs Western Styles - Which Do You Prefer?
There are two distinctive styles of school uniforms for boys in Japan. The more traditional gakuran (学ラン, lit. “Western study”) — which is, ironically, based on European military uniforms of the 1800s — and the modern sweater-and-blazer style.
Both feature points of appeal. The gakuran has an upstanding, straight-laced vibe, while the blazers are reminiscent of the suits many Japanese men end up wearing to work after graduation.
